Christian
Education Program
Union
Congregational Church is
Committed to Christian Education.
Nursery:
For the youngest
children there is a nursery.
We have one consistent paid caregiver on
staff who is assisted by a volunteer.
Sunday
School:
Our Sunday school
has a one classroom
program for Kindergarten and primary
grade children. We use a wonderful curriculum
specifically set up for this type
of classroom with diverse age-appropriate learning
activities. The children attend the beginning
of the worship service with their families and
go to their classroom after the children's story.
Currently
the Sunday school has two teachers who rotate
and are assisted by one or more volunteers. The
curriculum, One Room Sunday School, teaches them
great Bible stories while
at the same time giving them tools and strategies
they can apply to daily life.
Throughout
the year children are encouraged to participate
during worship. Many
share their musical talents or participate as
acolytes or scripture readers. On the first
Sunday of the month, the children are also invited
to participate in communion with
their families. During Advent, the children of
the church take part in the annual pageant.
In the late Spring, the children lead worship
on Children’s Sunday.
Youth Group:
The Youth Group
meets once a month on Sunday morning. During these
meetings they
discuss their faith and other issues that concern
them. The youth are encouraged to
share ideas and activities that will strengthen
the program and will make it
meaningful for them.
Adult
Education:
During the year,
several opportunities are available for adults.
These sessions
are customarily offered during the week in the
afternoons and evenings (material
covered is the same at each session). The classes
are usually in a series and are
open to everyone.
